In the municipality of Valle di Maddaloni , along the SS265 “fondo valle Isclero”, is the Ossuary of Garibaldi . This commemorative site is located right under the Ponti della Valle, part of the imposing Carolino Aqueduct designed by the famous architect Luigi Vanvitelli . From here begins an easy trekking route along the Monte Longano cycle/pedestrian path that extends for about 5 km to the municipal road that connects Bagnoli to Masseria Monteforte, both hamlets of Sant’Agata Dé Goti. I, however, stopped shortly before, at tower 41 , reducing the itinerary by about 180 meters. The route has a short initial uphill stretch of about 200 meters , useful for reaching the access point to the Ponti della Valle on Monte Longano. After another 50 meters of gentle ascent, you come across an old disused power plant. From here the road continues on a generally flat path even though in reality it is always slightly uphill as it follows the underground path of the Carolino aqueduct.
Along the Monte Longano cycle/pedestrian path towards Torrino 41
Following the route is simple : the aqueduct inspection towers appear at regular intervals and guide the hiker along the way. The road, mostly asphalted , runs along Mount Longano, winding through woods where chestnut trees reign supreme, along with wild cyclamens that in the cold months dot the undergrowth with their shy pink. On the left side, the valley opens up , with a view that ranges from the Ponti della Valle to the Matese reliefs. Once you reach tower 41, the asphalted route ends . At this point, you can stop to admire the view and appreciate the tranquility of the place. Once the break is over, just reverse gear to return to the starting point near the Ossario dei Garibaldini. The entire route offers an easy and accessible journey into nature , paying homage to the grandeur of the Carolino aqueduct and the evocative atmosphere of the Campania region.
